One The Avenger novel dealt with this--a storm caused a glacier in the Pacific Northwest to shear off and reveal a cave carved into a cliff beneath it sealed with a stone door. It turns out to be a time capsule left by a pre-native American civilization who knew they were about to be wiped out by an Ice Age.

One of the creepier bits of the book was statues that seem to move just a little when you aren't looking. Turns out they aren't quite statues, and they *are* moving.
